Matthew Cheetham, Asia Video Industry Association, Managing Director, Coalition Against Piracy (CAP)
The Asia Video Industry Association has appointed Matthew Cheetham as Managing Director of the Coalition Against Piracy (CAP).
AVIA – the trade association for the Asia-Pacific video industry and ecosystem – says that as CAP’s chief executive, Cheetham will succeed Aaron Herps and “build on the achievements made by CAP at to date, with the goal of creating a stronger and healthier environment in which the video industry can thrive”.
Cheetham is a qualified lawyer specializing in intellectual property, specifically copyright protection, with over 20 years of experience working in Asia-Pacific (APAC) for some of the world’s largest content producers.
Prior to joining CAP, Cheetham was Head of Business Affairs for the Premier League, Asia-Pacific. In this role, Cheetham opened and ran the Premier League’s APAC office in Singapore, the Premier League’s first office outside the UK, and oversaw all enforcement, policy and outreach efforts for the Premier League in APAC.
“CAP is critically important to AVIA and the industry as a whole and I am delighted that in Matt we have such a seasoned and experienced executive to take over. Matt will bring his own ideas and energy to this role and I am confident that CAP and industry anti-piracy efforts will grow stronger under him,” said Louis BoswellCEO, AVIA.
Prior to working for the Premier League, Cheetham spent ten years as the Motion Picture Association’s (MPA) regional legal adviser and deputy policy director for APAC, after which he was chief executive of the New Zealand office of MPA, the New Zealand Screen Association ( NZSA) which has overseen all enforcement, policy and outreach efforts for MPA member companies in New Zealand.
